Critcal Winking: Review: Shattering Glass →
criticalwinking: There is a lot to unpack in Connor Coyne’s series Shattering Glass: How to Survive Your First Year in College. It deals with the struggles of chaos versus order, creation versus destruction, science and supernatural. Mostly, though, it has to do with identity. This shouldn’t be surprising to…

Pimping a video game review done for DHGF: criticalwinking: Satellite’s gone, way up to Mars. Soon it will be filled with talking cars. That’s right, Transformers Prime: The Game is finally here for the Nintendo DS. The Mosquito Song Trivia #4
Most of the locations of the book are real or, at the very least, based on real locations.  Since it is set in 2009, some things have already changed. For instance, Daley is no longer Mayor of Chicago. Plus, the welcome to Ohio sign mention mid-book seems to be different now. The old, blood-colored one can be seen here.

The Mosquito Song Trivia #3
Most of the protagonist’s aliases are borrowed from detective novels. Terry Lennox is a character in Raymond’s Chandler’s The Long Goodbye. Max Thaler is from Dashiell Hammett’s story Red Harvest.

Vampire hunter Hugh Sommers is named after the makers of the movie Van Helsing. It is a crap movie that features what may be the worst Dracula of all time.

Another update
1. The Mosquito Song sells really well when it is free.  2. An MP3 of me reading a chapter is floating in cyberspace right now.  3. The first draft of Werewolf Thanksgiving should be done by this time next week.  4. After that, it is either re-write a old script into a novel, write Mosquito 2, re-visit my weird-o Mortal Kombat meets Amber style story, or write a cash-in romance novel about...

Update
The Mosquito Song is now being carried by Domy books in Austin.  Well, they have one copy at least…  Also, check out Caroline Hagood’s new poetry book. I haven’t read it, but she once said something nice about a Cronenberg movie. That’s all you need to get on my good side.

For realsies, this time.
I have worked out the ending to Thanksgiving for Werewolves. Still needs writing and a bunch of polish. Was thinking of doing a teaser MP3 of a selection.  That is all.

So we got 1 new Amazon review, 1 new goodread rating and a half dozen goodread adds.  That’s cool, and everything has been positive.  My friend Sam told me her mother is reading the book. She told her, “It’s actually really good.” New cover blurb: The Mosquito Song is “actually really good.” - Sam’s Mom.

Thanksgiving for Werewolves: update
The story is progressing quite nicely. Slowly, but nicely.  I’m hoping to have some the bulk of it done by next week. It probably won’t be any longer than The Mosquito Song, but it will have a more satisfying ending.  After this first draft is done, we’ll start working on the vampire follow-up. I’ve already had some requests for what “has to be” in the...

Fables
So, my friend Rocky and I switch comics around. Right now he’s lending me Fables. I like it so far. I like the characters and there are some cute ideas. The only downside is that I figured out the mystery about 45 pages before it was revealed.

So, a stranger on Goodreads gave The Mosquito Song a Four Star Review. Naturally, I looked at her other reviews.  She gave three stars to:  The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and A Princess of Mars.  Take that Edgar Rice Burroughs!

For the review of the first part of this serial, click here.  Part 2 of Connor Coyne’s How to Survive Your First Year in College: Shattering Glass encompasses chapters three and four of the story. It is available here. Things are starting to tighten up here, in the narrative sense. Our principal players have been defined and these chapters are more plot-driven. While the story maintains...
